TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Sunday 14th October

The Chase Celebrity Special, 7pm, ITV

Bradley Walsh returns for a new run of the celebrity edition of the nerve-racking game show, with more brave celebrities who fancy their chances against Britain’s brainiest boffins. Tonight our host is reminded of his days on the Corrie cobbles (he played Danny Baldwin back in the mid-2000s) as he introduces the Chasers to Coronation Street stars Simon Gregson (who plays Steve McDonald), Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Victoria Ekanoye (Angie Appleton) and Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland), who are attempting to win thousands for their chosen charities. Will Weatherfield’s finest hold their nerve? Rating: ****

Still Open All Hours, 8.30pm, BBC1

Granville has had a bumper delivery of ‘Manky Beans’ – ‘manky’, according to Granville, means ‘scrumptious’ in ancient Mongolian (‘Genghis Khan never went anywhere without his tin of Manky Beans,’ he claims). Elsewhere, Mr Machin is having funny dreams about being abducted by aliens, and finally, Leroy is on a mission to get rid of Beth’s boyfriend Gerard in favour of himself, although Beth doesn’t seem so convinced. Rating: ***

Doctor Who, 6.55pm, BBC1

After last week’s adventure in Sheffield, there’s a pronounced change of scenery in tonight’s episode. The gang find themselves marooned among the arid sand dunes of a deserted planet, appropriately named Desolation. Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and her pals Graham, Ryan and Yasmin have landed right in the middle of the Twelve Galaxies Space Rally and join the last two competitors (guest stars Shaun Dooley and Susan Lynch) as they race for the finish line. But why is this strange planet deserted? Why have they been warned not to travel at night? And – most importantly – where is the TARDIS? Also, keep an eye out for Hollywood star Art Malik as the rally’s mysterious referee… Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
