TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Sunday 9th September

Bodyguard, 9pm, BBC1

It’s been a roller-coaster ride so far and the pace is not letting up in tonight’s episode, which contains some shocking twists and intriguing plot developments. As Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) lies fighting for her life in hospital following last week’s bombing, Sgt David Budd (Richard Madden) is facing some tough questions about how the attacker got past him. The security services believe the Home Secretary’s aide, Tahir Mahmood, was carrying the briefcase that contained the bomb – but did he plan the attack or was the device secretly planted on him? As David desperately hunts for answers, he starts to wonder if dark forces within the government are working against him… Rating: *****

Vanity Fair, 9pm, ITV

Last time we saw Becky she was sitting in the back of a carriage giggling with Aunt Matilda, as she escaped the Crawley household and set off to the big smoke. Sir Pitt (Martin Clunes) is bereft now she’s gone (mainly because he has to actually interact with his own family again), but Becky isn’t looking back. Content with her new position for now, she’s flirting with Rawdon and dressing in fancier clothes, but will the new company she’s keeping be enough to boost her social status? Meanwhile, Amelia’s fortunes are on the decline as she learns of her father’s financial crisis and begins to understand the implications for her relationship with George… Rating: ****

Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, 9pm, C4

It’s nothing short of a guilty pleasure watching 10 celebrities plonked on a remote, deserted island with basic tools and limited water supplies in this extreme survival show. On day one TOWIE’s Pete Wicks makes a tactical error with the group’s water supply, much to the dismay of the sodden campmates, including Julia Roberts’ actor brother Eric, Martin Kemp, James Cracknell and Jo Wood. But Pete soon redeems himself by rescuing Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett from a net in deep water. It’s fascinating watching the wannabe survivors versus those as useful as an inflatable ironing board… Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
