The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, 9pm, BBC2

Comic Romesh Ranganathan’s idea of a good holiday is lying on a beach. "My capacity to do absolutely nothing is breath-taking," he says. So his series, visiting countries most tourists avoid – Albania, Ethiopia and, in tonight’s opener, Haiti – came as a bit of a jolt. On the island ravaged by an earthquake in 2010, Romesh [who spoke to us about his adventure] immerses himself in the culture and brings his wry commentary on proceedings, but is visibly terrified when he attends a voodoo ceremony involving chickens… Rating: ****

Poldark, 9.10pm, BBC1

Poldark S4 - EP1 Morwenna

As if poor Morwenna hadn’t suffered enough, things take a nasty turn when Ossie decides to get her locked up in a lunatic asylum. Her crime? Refusing him his ‘conjugal rights’, as he calls them. Instead, he’s been continuing his affair with Morwenna’s scheming sister, Rowella, while persuading his physician, Dr Choake, that his wife is insane. Fortunately,Dr Choake decides to seek a second opinion from Dwight. But will Dwight save Morwenna from a life locked away in an asylum? Meanwhile, Dwight is also called to save several trapped miners when there’s a flood – but that’s the least of his worries when Caroline discovers the truth about baby Sarah’s illness… Rating: *****

The Handmaid’s Tale, 9pm, C4

Wow, we didn’t expect last week’s explosive ending! Unfortunately, one act of resistance won’t change much for the handmaids still being exploited in Gilead, but it has left Commander Waterford in a critical condition, and his household vulnerable and unprotected. Within hours there’s another Commander at the door, grilling Offred about her ‘kidnapping’ and alarming Serena. How far is she prepared to go to deflect attention away from their home? Meanwhile, the loss of so many handmaids in the attack means Emily and Janine are brought back from the Colonies to take their place. And over in Canada, Moira goes on a heart-breaking journey to find answers… Rating: *****
