Deep State, 9pm, Fox

Family man and British expat Max (played by star of big and small screen Mark Strong) is living a tranquil life in France. Little does he know that his past as a ruthless MI6 operative is about to catch up with him, as sinister events force him back to London. There he receives a briefing for one final job, which leaves him with no choice but to put his life and his marriage to Anna (Lyne Renée) on the line. As he flies to Beirut, you get the sense that nothing will ever be the same again... A gripping, tense eight-part conspiracy thriller that leaves you wanting more – though you might have to watch the more brutal scenes from behind a cushion! Rating: ****

The Cruise: Sailing the Caribbean, 8.30pm, ITV

The Caribbean is the world’s most popular cruise destination, but it’s not just about dinner at the captain’s table. This three-part documentary follows the Royal Princess as she visits 17 tropical destinations, and meets some of the crew working hard to make everything look seamless. Doctor Laverne thinks she’s found her dream job as the new ship medic, but has a baptism of fire when someone has to be rushed to hospital. Concierge Eber goes to great lengths to remember his 70 VIP guests’ names, and day trip co-ordinator Timothy has a constant battle getting passengers back on the boat – they’ve a tight schedule to keep – and many of the passengers are still on shore calmly shopping… Rating: ***

In the Long Run, 10pm, Sky One

The Broadwater Farm riots are brewing in the background but Walter and his family soon have other concerns as Valentine has a trial for Leyton Orient. Can Bagpipes helps him make the grade? Bagpipes is also a man on a mission since he’s trying to raise funds to take wife Kirsty away for a romantic break; she’s thinking Paris, but his plans are more along the lines of Chelmsford in a static caravan! Rating: *****
