TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 3rd July

Our Girl, 9.10pm, BBC1

Tonight’s episode wanders into X Factor territory when baddie Bones tells 2-Section that ‘One of you will be going home’, suggesting that at least one of the gang faces being sent back to the UK in disgrace. Georgie’s convinced it’s her, but she’s got bigger worries as she’s trying to ignore the advances of Captain James, who is recovering from his injury… A weak episode, partly redeemed by a shocking final five minutes. Rating: ***

Ackley Bridge, 8pm, C4

Mixing business with pleasure doesn’t always work as PE teacher Steve Bell (Paul Nicholls) and headteacher Mandy Carter (Jo Joyner) found last series when their marriage ended after they both cheated on each other. But things seem to be looking up for the couple as they are getting closer again. Mandy’s definitely seeing Steve in a good light this week as he tries to help troubled pupil Cory Wilson by inviting a rugby scout to come and watch the talented lad. An impressed Mandy suggests Steve go for the deputy head job. Trouble is, Cory’s violent dad, Kevin, doesn’t share Steve’s enthusiasm and they come to blows. Has Steve ruined any chance of a reunion with Mandy? Rating: ***

RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, 9.30pm, BBC2

In the first of four shows this week, Joe Swift and Jo Whiley look at some of the delights at this year’s show. Joining them from the world’s largest annual flower show are a host of green-fingered experts including Carol Klein, Adam Frost, Toby Buckland and Nick Bailey, who will be guiding us through the show gardens and floral exhibits. Later in the week, Toby looks at how to design the perfect family garden, Joe chats to a designer inspired by the Mr Men books, and Frances Tophill demonstrates how to create blooming summer containers. If you are feeling inspired, watch out for Carol on Friday when she will explain what to plant this weekend for instant impact. Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
