Age Before Beauty, 9pm, BBC1

It’s only episode two but we’re already hooked on this frothy and glossy all-star family saga! After being roped back in to help save the struggling family business, MirrorBel Beauty Salon, poor Bel (Polly Walker) is now also coping with the discovery that hubby Wes (James Murray) is having his head turned by personal trainer Lorelei. Determined to find out more, Bel books in for a trial one-to-one fitness session under a fake name so she can check out her love rival – and is horrified to discover Lorelei is young, fit and totally gorgeous… Meanwhile, Ivy-Rae (a scene-stealing Sue Johnston) hits the dance floor as she competes in a Northern Soul event. Ackley Bridge, 8pm, C4

Dinner lady Kaneez has been scaring the residents of Ackley Bridge with her driving – and now she’s gearing up to take her test! The Foreign Doctors Are Coming, 10pm, C4

With the NHS battling against a shortage of doctors, this film follows some of the foreign doctors as they try to pass an exam to allow them to work in the UK. The GMC (General Medical Council) in Manchester is responsible for making sure all doctors practising in the UK know their stuff. To prepare for the GMC test, as many as 70 doctors every two weeks attend Dr Swamy’s training academy to make sure they know how the NHS works. The main emphasis seems to be on teaching how to communicate with UK patients, using empathy, sympathy and honesty. For many doctors, it’s also a bit of a culture shock, from ethical and cultural issues right down to the Manchester weather. Rating: ***
