What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 10th April

This Time Next Year, 8pm / ITV

Davina McCall’s feel-good show returns with extraordinary people pledging to change their lives by ‘this time next year’. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait 12 months to discover if they achieve their goals, as the programme immediately leaps forward 12 months! Tonight, can modern medicine help ill Jayne acquire a prosthetic nose? Will mother and daughter Nichole and Laura manage to shed 15 stone between them? Meanwhile, parents Charlotte and Nathan hope deaf baby daughter Olivia will hear them one day soon… Energetic and empathetic by turns, Davina effortlessly stitches together the Befores and Afters in this sincere, heart-warming series. Rating: ****

Cunk on Britain, 10pm, BBC2

Diane Morgan’s glorious comic character Philomena Cunk has another hilarious crack at British history, this week starting with a look at ‘King Henry of Eight’ and his ‘chronic wife addiction’. She also wonders whether ‘will.i.am Shakespeare’ would have made a good TV writer, muses on ‘Vegan Queen’ Elizabeth I’s role as ‘the season finale of the Tudors’ and baffles historians with surreal questions on Francis Drake, the Great Fire of London and the death of ‘Horror-show Nelson’. Rating: ****

Class of Mum and Dad, 8pm, C4

In a brave move a group of mums and dads are going back to school to find out the hard way what primary education is like today. This three-part series sees them join a new Year 6 class at Blackrod Primary, near Bolton, where they’re expected to do everything their own children do – including sit SAT exams, wear school uniform and tuck into school dinners. It’s not long before mum Julia is sobbing in the toilets over a difficult maths paper, dad Jonny is complaining that there are fewer rules in prison and 52-year-old Mark is reliving his hatred of PE. The result is an eye-opening and surprisingly moving look at what really goes on in our children’s schools… Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
