The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs, 9pm (times vary) / BBC1
In this two-part investigation, Dr Chris van Tulleken asks why we give our kids three-and-a-half times more medication than we did 40 years ago. First up is the most popular liquid paracetamol for children – Calpol, which we buy almost literally by the bucketful, spending £64million on it in 2016. But do our nippers really need it, and are we doing them harm by using it as a cure-all? Next is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, with 60,000 kids in the UK taking ADHD medication. Is there an effective alternative to popping pills? Dr Chris thinks so and trials a course of mindfulness with six sufferers. Well-made, informative and thought-provoking. Rating: *****
Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier, 10pm, Dave
Comedian Jon Richardson adds more subjects to his ‘worry index’ and this week turns his attention to things that bother him about his body. It seems that back fat, his face and living forever are Jon’s main issues, and, ironically, he comes up with a pie chart illustrating the reasons he doesn’t go to the gym. Jon is joined by fellow comics Sara Pascoe and Joe Wilkinson, who are only too happy to share their own bodily concerns. Highlights include Jon walking in a pair of kinky boots (which probably doesn’t help him control his back fat), and all in all it’s a very funny show if you like things with a Room 101 flavour. Rating: ****
Taskmaster, 9pm, Dave
Dave’s hit show is pulling in record audiences for the channel and now has a US version (co-hosted by Alex Horne) to spread the word internationally. But the original is still the best and this week, the much-tasked quintet of Liza Tarbuck, Asim Chaudhry, Alice Levine, Tim Vine and Russell Howard rise to the challenge of copying a Leonardo da Vinci artwork using squirty cream and getting a new tattoo. Tons of fun. Rating: ****
