What’s On TV Tonight? Our Pick Of The Best Shows: Wednesday 27th December
TV Times tops picks for tonight
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the three best shows on Wednesday 27th December
Miranda Does Christmas, 9.00pm, C4
Christmas was great when you were a kid, but once you’re a grown-up it’s all about last-minute present shopping and spending hours slaving away in the kitchen while the in-laws lounge around on the sofa. If that’s how it is round your way, Miranda Hart - who's spoken to us about the show - is on hand to point out how you should have tackled the festive season. With the help of celebrity friends including David Tennant, Sam Smith and Prue Leith, the comedian hands out useful tips on how to survive Christmas events like the office party, before going carol singing and spreading joy to Christmas shoppers. Also, keep an eye out for a memorably festive rendition of Destiny’s Child hit Independent Women. Rating: ****
Alan Partridge: Why, When, Where, How and Whom?, 9.00pm, BBC2
This documentary celebration of Steve Coogan’s most famous creation also acts as a warm-up for Alan’s return to TV next year. From his debut on BBC radio, when Alan was just a jobbing sports correspondent on Chris Morris’s On the Hour, right up to Peak Partridge, the feature film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (showing tomorrow 11.30pm), this is a frequently very funny mix of Alan’s best (ie most cringe-inducing) moments, interviews and clips of Steve and co improvising like crazy while trying to keep a straight face. Rating: ****
The Miniaturist, 9.00pm, BBC1
Following the epic revelations about both Marin and Johannes, the shocks keep on coming in this tense finale to the sublime period adaptation. As the Brandt household starts to fall apart, it’s now down to plucky Nella to finally prove her mettle and try to hold things together when the city’s ruthless leaders get dangerous. But as more of the miniaturist’s predictions and messages start to resonate, will Nella ever uncover the woman’s strange secrets? Rating: *****
