The TV Times team reveal their top picks for tonight...

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Wednesday 29th November…

Peaky Blinders, 9.00pm, BBC2

After the blood and bullets of the opening chapters, the Shelby women are given a chance to shine in an episode that comes as a very welcome mid-series change of pace. With Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) retreating to a familiar state of torment following the death of his brother John, his wife Linda uses fresh tactics to get him back on track and union boss Jessie Eden opens a door to Tommy’s past. The Peaky Blinders boss has always been a bit of a dark horse, so this glimpse of the man he used to be before the war feels like a rare gift. Meanwhile, Aunt Polly is more disillusioned than ever. Rating: ****

The Channel, 9.00pm, C4

The Channel episode 1

Known as "the M25 of the sea", the English Channel is the busiest shipping lane on the planet. This series meets the people who keep the maritime traffic on the waterway flowing. Among the ferry captains, coastguards and Channel swimmers featured in this first episode is Tony, a deep-sea pilot who’s responsible for guiding the world’s largest container carrier into port. Nearly four times bigger than the Titanic, this vessel carries so much cargo that a DVD player can be imported from China for the same cost as a first-class stamp. "I’ve got half a billion pounds of goods on board," he says proudly. "So it’s quite a responsibility!" Rating: ****

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Amazon Prime Video

Elegant New York housewife Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan, House of Cards) seems to have it all. But when something happens to derail her stylish Upper West Side life, Midge discovers an untapped talent that sends her on a new path… Tony Shalhoub also stars in this fast and funny 1950s-set drama. Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
