TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Wednesday 8th August

The Real Marigold Hotel, 9pm, BBC1

The celebrities-go-to-India series continues this week with a trip to one of the country’s, and indeed the world’s, holiest places – the shimmering Golden Temple at Amritsar. With more than 100,000 Sikh pilgrims visiting every single day, the famous British pensioners help the army of volunteers feed the many worshippers in the temple’s kitchen, which means making at least 300,000 chapatis! Back in Udaipur, Syd Little takes up learning the sitar, Peter Dean goes on a romantic lakeside blind date with a local Indian lady, and The Krankies’ Janette Tough stuns the esteemed guests at a glamorous cocktail party hosted by Udaipur royalty by doing a highland fling! Fandabidozi! Ratings: ****

Hang Ups, 10pm, C4

Stephen Mangan puts the funny into therapy in this all-star comedy, which sees him play harassed shrink Richard Pitt, who is setting up an online practice. One of the joys of this quirky comedy is seeing guest stars – the likes of Jo Joyner, Sarah Hadland and David Tennant – enjoy themselves as they play some of Richard’s patients. But it soon becomes clear that Richard has issues of his own. Also stars Richard E Grant. Ratings: ****

Judge Romesh, from 10pm, Dave

Romesh Ranganathan holds court in a new comedy where he presides as judge to settle disputes between ordinary folk, whether it be a wife disgruntled by her husband’s excessive bargain-hunting or a friend wanting a refund from a mate who sold him a ‘holiday’ that turned out to be a dating course. Assisted by burly bailiff Tom Davis and clerk Kerry Howard, can these three left-field legal eagles solve people’s grievances? Other cases brought before His Honour include a dodgy suit bought by a children’s entertainer, and a rapper who’s fallen out with his backing dancer. All rise for Judge Romesh! Rating: ****
