The Great British Sewing Bee, 9pm, BBC One
The sewing room is abuzz with excitement this week, as the competition reaches the quarter-final and the sewers are taken back to the glamour of the 1930s. Judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant start by setting the remaining sewers a Pattern Challenge to make a pair of women’s sailor-inspired trousers before they’re given men’s shirts to turn into 1930s women’s blouses. But the highlight is when they’re tasked with creating stunning bias-cut evening gowns reminiscent of the outfits worn by Hollywood icons Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis. Will they be dazzling or disastrous?

The Savoy, 9pm, ITV
We’ve heard a lot about how hospitality has struggled to survive the past two years, but this series goes behind the scenes of an establishment at the very top end of the industry – London’s Savoy hotel. After the pandemic, it’s starting to compete again in the billion-pound market of five-star hotels. There are well-known faces – Shirley Ballas is among the visitors, and Gordon Ramsay is opening a seafood restaurant on the premises – but as ever with these fly-on-the-wall series it’s the staff who leave an impression. Ones to watch out for are Guest Experience Manager Sean and Executive Michael (butlers in oldspeak), whose relationship is one we think we’re going to enjoy…

DNA Family Secrets, 9pm, BBC Two
The series ends with host Stacey Dooley meeting five sisters who want to know if they share a dad as well as a mum. The siblings all grew up in care or were adopted, only finding each other in their 20s, after their mum had already died, taking all the answers about their dad or dads to the grave. Also looking for answers is Luke, who as a young man donated sperm to earn a bit of extra cash. Now, more than 30 years later, he’s wondering if he has any donor-conceived children and, if so, how many? Finally, Stacey helps identical twin sisters discover if they carry a faulty gene that could cause cancer.

The Repair Shop, 8pm, BBC One
As a mischievous nine-year-old, John had great fun using a Victorian diorama, or 3D model, of a horse-racing scene for target practice. Decades later, he’s hoping David Burville can undo the damage he inflicted and bring this intricate treasure back to life. Elsewhere, wood expert Will Kirk is restoring a much-loved kitchen table, master cobbler Dean Westmoreland tries to keep a straight face as he fixes an enormous pair of clown shoes, and teddy bear ladies Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell transform a battered blue bear for owner Tom.

Hacks, season 2, Prime Video
The delay between the first series of this acerbic yet warm-hearted comedy being shown in the US and the UK was such that it had already won a clutch of awards before being screened here. But it also means that fans haven’t had to wait too long for this second series, which sees veteran comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her chaotic twentysomething joke-writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder) take to the road. Their relationship has never been better – but there’s a cloud hanging over them….
Best film to watch on TV tonight
Downhill, 9pm, Film4
All-American couple Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are on a skiing holiday in the Alps with their two young sons when a near miss from an avalanche puts their relationship to the test. Indeed, the snow has barely settled before the wrangling and recriminations begin, exposing perilous cracks in their relationship. As you would expect from the presence of comic stars Ferrell and Louis-Dreyfus, this Hollywood remake of Swedish director Ruben Östlund's deliciously unsettling Force Majeure broadens the original's dark humour, but along with the laughs goes a portrayal of a fraying marriage with its own measure of insight.
