What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Thursday 18th October

Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip, 9pm, ITV

First Dates’ Fred Sirieix is front of house tonight when he challenges his travelling buddies, chefs Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo, to help him deliver delicious platters at the first Oyster Festival in Arcachon. Fresh off the boat from Sardinia, the trio arrive in France with only four days to create impressive dishes for the event. But before the hard work starts, Gordon challenges Fred to race to the shore. Their arrival on a famous nudist beach sets the tone for tonight’s cheeky adventure! Amidst the bickering, boozing and bonding, will the threesome produce the goods? Look out, too, for a fatherly French connection in the form of Fred’s dad, who makes a guest appearance on the opening day of the festival. Rating: ****

Ambulance, 9pm, BBC1

Anyone who thinks they’re busy at work should spare a thought for the North West Ambulance Service, who answered 11,179 calls in one weekend! As the series returns, we follow paramedics and call operators facing everything from car accidents to intoxicated festivalgoers. As paramedic Andrea explains, after visiting a woman with sepsis: ‘Unless you’ve been in this position I don’t think anyone can understand the grief you can go through in a day’s work.’ Rating: ****

Canada: A Year in the Wild, 8pm, Channel 5

Spring has now sprung in the second largest country on Earth, but it’s late this year, and covering almost four million square miles, Canada is so vast that the season arrives at different times across the country. So it’s now a race against time for some of our creatures to find a mate or to give birth. As well as new life, it’s also a time of fresh starts as many animals wake from hibernation, including the black bear, whose cute cubs must venture to the beach on Canada’s western coast to learn the art of crabbing. It’s a dangerous time, especially as there are threatening male bears about. Watch out, too, for the defrosting wood frog! Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
