TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 28th August

The Great British Bake Off, 8pm, C4

More joyous than the smell of freshly baked bread, it’s a delight to be back in the tent with 12 new bakers. Mouth-watering challenges, Hollywood handshakes and top fashion statements from Noel Fielding await and, in a break with tradition, we start with Biscuit Week! Our bakers – including a retired flight attendant and a nuclear scientist – face a testing signature bake, a nostalgic technical and a tough showstopper – a self-portrait in biscuit form! While one baker sits and eats crisps, another is feeling the pressure, announcing, ‘More people have been in space than in this tent!’ Let’s hope the stress inspires some stunning bakes. Companion show An Extra Slice returns on Friday at 8pm. Rating: *****

Age Before Beauty, 9pm, BBC1

Cheating Wes is in turmoil. Although he remains torn between wife Bel and lover Lorelei, he’s starting to panic that both women might know more about each other than they are letting on. Bel’s also raising suspicions as brother-in-law Teddy’s plan to tempt her away from Wes seems to be working. Meanwhile, we’re feeling slightly sorry for Leanne as she’s oblivious to the illicit goings-on. Tune in tomorrow night (9pm) for the finale… Rating: ****

First Dates Hotel, 9.15pm, C4

Maitre d’ Fred Sirieix and his team fling open the doors of the First Dates Hotel in beautiful, romantic Italy – and there must be something in the air because the first few dates of series three go extremely well! Emma, 44, has had her heart broken before and is looking for ‘a big, strong Viking’. Cue 6ft 2in carpenter Luke, who makes her heart melt and who is equally bowled over by her. After losing his partner, 54-year-old David is ready to find love again. His date is Andrew, 51, who is more than happy to be David’s new start. Finally, Chloe, 24, is after someone with ‘goals and guns’, and is impressed by ambitious 21-year-old Jem. They share a love of spag bol and building a business empire in Dubai. Rating: ****
