Michael Greco, better known as Beppe di Marco in EastEnders, has signed up for BBC1's medical drama, Casualty...

On Twitter this week, Michael, 46, said he was 'delighted to be joining the cast of @BBCCasualty'.

 

He added: “Such an amazing show that’s maintained such incredible standards.”

His Tweet came out of the blue for Casualty fans, who where enthusiastic in welcoming him to the show:

 

His celebrity pals were quick to congratulate him, too. Emmerdale's Natalie Anderson said:

Winterson’s, a London-based agency for actors, had earlier revealed Michael will be playing the role of Phil Patterson when he joins Casualty:

 

Michael played EastEnders’ heartthrob Beppe from 1998 to 2002. A role that saw him win the British Soap Award for Sexiest Male in 1999 and 2000.

Professional poker player Michael has also appeared in Hatfields & McCoys with Kevin Costner, ITV’s Chasing Shadows with Alex Kingston, and a number of celebrity entertainment shows, including Celebrity Love Island, Soapstar Superstar and Showbiz Poker.
