Maggie Gyllenhaal: I want a role on Downton Abbey

Maggie Gyllenhaal has set her sights on landing a part in Downton Abbey.

The 36-year-old Hollywood star, whose brother is actor Jake, is a fan of Lord Julian Fellowes' ITV period drama, which stars Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and Dame Maggie Smith.

"I don't think my brother watches it, but my mum and I text each other when it's on," she told Closer.

Maggie - who stars in new BBC Two thriller The Honourable Woman (Thursday, July 3) - has already thought about the role she could play on Downton. "I could play a strange sister who becomes pregnant and doesn't have anywhere to go. And the father is... Who knows?!"

Sue Johnston, Richard E Grant and Anna Chancellor will join the cast for the fifth series of Downton Abbey, which will begin screening on ITV in September.
