Before the Flood

The Doctor is still determined to solve the mystery of the killer ghosts rampaging on underwater base, The Drum, in 2119.

The TARDIS takes him back in time to 1980 to the same spot in Caithness, Scotland, where in future underwater base The Drum is now situated. It’s there the Doctor begins to find some clues...

He finds an abandoned army camp and the black spaceship that was brought into The Drum in the future. He also meets Albert Prentis (Paul Kaye), a curious alien dressed as an undertaker with a top hat, who was seen in last week’s episode as one of the killer ghosts on the underwater base in 2119. Prentis seems guarding the black spaceship, and the Doctor discovers it contains an alien monster, the Fisher King, who’s creating an army of ghosts in 1980 and ends up attacking the crew of The Drum.

Back in 1980, the Doctor has a plan. He causes a huge dam to blow up, flooding the area and washing away the Fisher King. And eventually the mystery of why Clara saw the Doctor as a hollow-eyed ghost is also solved when it seems the ghost Doctor had just been a hologram...

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
