When a mysterious young boy flees from a battlefield, the Doctor arrives to try to save him in the nick of time. This tense scene, which sees the boy trapped in a strange type of minefield, kicks off the new series of Doctor Who. It has enormous consequences for the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) because he finds out the lad is actually his arch enemy, Davros, who eventually goes on to become the creator of the Daleks. The Doctor now faces the huge dilemma of whether to save young Davros even though he knows he'll go on to cause mayhem and destruction in the universe by inventing the Daleks…

Also in The Magician’s Apprentice, the first episode of a two-part story, the Time Lord’s travelling companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) is very busy. She isn’t with the Doctor at first because she’s happily teaching again, at Coal Hill School, when a strange phenomenon occurs all over the world. Every plane in the sky comes to a sudden halt mid-air. And it’s not long before she can’t believe her eyes again by coming face-to-face with an enemy from the past - the Doctor’s Time Lord nemesis Missy (played again Michelle Gomez).

Eventually, Clara and Missy end up travelling through time together and catch up with Doctor playing a rock guitar in the Middle Ages. Soon they’re all led into an encounter with another dangerous enemy who the Doctor has faced many times before. The Daleks are lurking somewhere deep in space and are hellbent on causing more mayhem. He also meets Davros again, who is dying! It's another deadly encounter with the Daleks as Missy and Clara are both zapped by Daleks and killed...

TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
