The Doctor meets his new companion Bill Potts, who soon jumps into the TARDIS for a whirlwind adventure featuring Daleks and a scary water creature...

It’s an eventful initiation into the intergalactic timey-wimey world of the TARDIS for Bill Potts when she becomes The Doctor’s companion for Peter Capaldi’s last series. The action is relentless and dramatic from the moment the pair meets at a university. He’s working as a science and poetics lecturer – the wackiest you can imagine, arms flailing everywhere - and she serves chips in the uni canteen, but each is somehow drawn to each other...

Feisty, frizzy-haired and openly gay, orphaned Bill (Pearl Mackie) is very inquisitive, and she’s suffering the pangs of unrequited love for a student Heather (Jekyll & Hyde star Stephanie Hyam). When Bill and Heather come across something curious in a puddle it kicks off the adventure of a lifetime for Bill when she seeks help from the Doctor and his assistant Nardole (Matt Lucas).

Soon this unlikely trio is confronted by a strange water creature, and decide to deal with it by dashing off in the TARDIS to Australia, followed by a rocky planet 23 million years in the future, then straight into a battle featuring those bitter enemies of the Doctor, yes the Daleks! It’s a lot to take in on your first TARDIS trip, but for Bill, anything is better than serving chips all day…

TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of TV so I've found the perfect job, writing about telly shows and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 30 years. I'm currently the TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus contribute to Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas, Tenko and I'm quite partial to a bit of Little House on The Prairie. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too, and love newer shows such as The Day Of The Jackal, This is Us, Hacks and anything Dexter.
