Tower of London (1962) | The gothic horror take on Shakespeare’s Richard III gets a UK HD release

Tower of London (1962)

The vintage classic horror, Tower of London, from King of the B's Roger Corman and starring Vincent Price gets a dual format (Blu-ray/DVD) from Arrow Video.

Having made their mark on American horror cinema with three colourful adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe, Vincent Price and director Roger Corman enjoyed a brief hiatus from the macabre author with 1962's Tower of London. Shot in black and white, the film was loosely based on Universal’s 1939 horror picture of the same name, but with a big nod to Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Richard III.

That master of menace, Vincent Price, plays Richard of Gloucester, brother to a dying king and eager to take his place on the throne. When he is overlooked in favour of the Duke of Clarence, things get nasty as Richard goes on a murderous rage, only for the ghosts of those he has slain to begin to haunt him...

Tower of London (1962)

Price relishes the opportunity to take on an iconic Shakespearean character, and Roger Corman works wonders with his low budget, thanks to some atmospheric photography and some impressive set design. If you’ve ever wondered what a drive-in Shakespeare film would look like, then look no further...
