Instalment number five in the relentlessly daft sci-fi blockbuster series, Transformers: The Last Knight is the most spectacularly stupid yet: a crashing, bashing, ludicrous farrago that lands the shape-changing robots in the midst of Arthurian legend and interplanetary quests.

Mark Wahlberg’s widowed amateur inventor Cade Yeager, hero of episode four, is back, while Anthony Hopkins pops up as an exposition-spouting English aristocrat, complete with a fussy C3PO-like robot butler voiced by Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter.

The silliest role of all, however, goes to Laura Haddock as a polo-playing, cleavage-displaying, skinny-dress-wearing Oxford history professor, which gives Michael Bay’s camera something to ogle when it isn’t pointing at explosions and somersaulting stuntmen.
