Upside Down Jim Sturgess Kirsten Dust

Two worlds. One future.

Star-crossed lovers Adam (Jim Sturgess) and Eden (Kirsten Dunst live on twinned worlds with gravities that pull in opposite directions. He’s with the exploited have-nots Down Below, while she’s Up Top with the rich folk. Will love – and Adam’s inventions - find a way to connect them?

Bizarre romantic fantasy Upside Down is mostly desperately twee, but Argentine director Juan Solanas displays flashes of visual ingenuity, while Timothy Spall adds amusingly sympathetic support as Adam’s cigar-chomping ally.

Certificate 12A. Runtime 104 mins. Director Juan Solanas

Upside Down debuts on Sky Cinema Premiere on 18 November. Available on DVD & Digital from Icon Home Entertainment.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
