Anne Robinson facing 50 per cent pay cut at BBC

TV presenter Anne Robinson could see her £1m BBC salary slashed by half as the corporation continues its attempts to cut costs.

The 68-year-old host of The Weakest Link and Watchdog signed the deal with the BBC two years ago but is due to meet with bosses in the next few weeks to renegotiate.

And sources have suggested that her wage may be reduced by as much as 50 per cent - mirroring the fate of fellow presenters Jeremy Paxman and Alan Hansen, who also saw their salaries cut.

"Anne is one of the most important presenters on the BBC," an insider said.

"But a couple of years ago she was on every night with The Weakest Link. These days her appearances are far fewer which is why the deal is likely to be less."

Anne, who also presents radio shows for the Beeb, has previously been a victim of budget cuts, having previously been on a £2m deal with the corporation.

News of her possible pay cut comes in the week that some of the salaries of the BBC's highest paid stars were revealed.

Graham Norton was among those with the biggest wage packets, having earned £2.6m in the past 12 months.
