Could David Budd be back in action for a second series of the thriller?

Bodyguard star Richard Madden has revealed that he’s about to meet up with the show’s creator to potentially discuss a second series of the BBC1 thriller.

In the first concrete news about the possibility of a second series, the 32-year-old actor, who played David Budd in the megahit, said he was about to talk over with writer Jed Mercurio where his character could go.

Speaking to Deadline, Richard said: “I’m going to meet Jed in a couple of weeks, to have a chat and see what’s in his brilliant brain. So I’m like, what can happen next? You know, with David. Because he had a hell a couple of months there. Where do you go with this guy?”

Richard loved working with his Bodyguard co-star Keeley Hawes

Bodyguard, which was the most watched drama on British television in over a decade, is now available in Netflix in America and Richard spoke about the enormous reaction the show has had.

“It’s been quite mad,” he said. “You never expect things to go quite as well, or to catch that many people’s attention, so it was quite overwhelming.”

He added: “You work so hard on these things that they nearly kill you. You do six days a week, fourteen hours a day, for five months. And then it’ll come out and get two stars and people go, “Yeah, it’s alright”. This has been the absolute opposite, and all that hard work has paid off; it’s been worth it.”

Meanwhile, Richard revealed how he hit it off with his co-star Keeley Hawes, who played Home Secretary Julia Montague.

“We got on straight away, and performance and acting wise, I had a really great time with her. She’s just a brilliant actress.”

So, now we just have to hope his meeting with Jed goes really well and they agree to make Bodyguard series two…

The first series of Bodyguard is available on BBC iPlayer.
