How to Be a Woman author Caitlin Moran likes the idea of Dustin Hoffman playing her in the movie based on her bestselling memoirs.
"I would like Dustin Hoffman to play me, because the main problems of being a woman in the 21st century are mainly those of [being in] drag, and he did such a brilliant job in Tootsie," she says.
“I think he’d want the stretch of playing a fat 16-year-old girl from Wolverhampton., and I will give him that stretch. Or, if not him, then Robbie Coltrane from his Nuns on the Run period. Or Tony Curtis…”
Meanwhile, Caitlin is to be played on the small screen by Helen Monks, best known as the voice of Pip Archer, in the upcoming Channel 4 comedy pilot Raised by Wolves.
The journalist and broadcaster, who co-wrote the script about her childhood in Wolverhampton with her sister Caroline, reveals that the casting of Helen as Germaine, a character based on her younger self, came about in rather unlikely fashion.
“I was at a book signing in Birmingham, and Helen came up to me and said: ‘If you ever want someone to play you, call me’,” explains Caitlin. “So I took her number.”
