It was a sad episode for fans of Doctor Rash…

Casualty viewers were left in shock after doctor Rash Masum bid farewell to the ED in Saturday night’s episode.

The young doctor had plans to travel the world with girlfriend Gemma before committing to a life of medicine, but appeared to have a change of heart so Gem could look after Iain.

And when his mum was brought into the ED after suffering a suspected heart attack, it was clear that Rash began to think he’d made the right decision to stay.

However, when it turned out his mum had actually had an angina attack, she encouraged him to follow his heart and travel, even without Gemma.

But as he said a bitter farewell to Holby City Hospital, viewers flooded social media to express their sadness over his departure.

One said: ‘Whoever made the decision to make Rash leave, I’d like an apology because you can’t just get rid of my favourite character like that!’

A second added: ‘Goodbye Rash! Sad to see a great character leave, but hopefully he’ll be back soon!’

And a third said: ‘I hope he does come back and that Gem and Rash end up together forever. We need a happy marriage on Casualty for a change.’

Viewers can at least take some comfort in knowing that actor Neet Mohan will reprise his role as Dr Rash.

Neet took a break from the BBC One hospital drama earlier this year, with Rash's temporary departure coinciding with that.

However, while his character’s departure has only just aired, Neet is already back filming with the show, with his return scenes due to air later in the year.

Casualty continues on Saturday, April 28 on BBC One.
