In this week’s Casualty the ED staff attempt to pick up the pieces after last week’s cyber attack, while also distraught by Iain’s attempt to end his life… WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Can Gem come to terms with Iain’s pain in Casualty this Saturday?

Since paramedic Iain Dean attempted to take his life, his younger sister Gem has been tirelessly by his side. This week, after Iain regains consciousness in intensive care, Gem (Rebecca Ryan) is shocked and hurt when clinical lead Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) reveals Iain doesn’t want to see her.

Anxious to understand Iain’s actions Gem decides to retrace her big brother’s steps on the day prior to his suicide attempt. This brings her face-to-face with their alcoholic mother Kim! Nasty at the best of times, Kim questions the strength of the siblings’ relationship and accuses Gem of letting Iain down. Distraught, Gem angrily confronts Iain and accuses him of being selfish, while secretly blaming herself for not realising he desperately needed support…

Meanwhile, Gem’s understandably emotional reaction to events, sees her lash out at boyfriend Rash and close friend Ruby. Is Gem in danger of becoming isolated when she most needs her loved ones?

Ruby crosses a line?

Paramedic Ruby is still coming to terms with Iain’s actions and, finding herself bearing some of Gem’s grief, she instead turns her attentions towards young carer, Dani.

After Rash breaks bad news about the young woman’s mum, Ruby is there for Dani as a shoulder to cry on. Concerned at Ruby’s vulnerable state of mind boss Jan cautions Ruby not to get overly emotionally involved. Usually a stickler for rules and regulations, surely Ruby will follow Jan’s orders?

Elle angers Connie – again! It seems Elle can’t do right for doing wrong when it comes to clinical lead Connie Beauchamp recently. Connie gives Elle short shrift when she catches Elle giving the medics a pep talk this week. Although Elle is a little indignant at the time, she soon regrets her actions, as in pushing the team to focus on work she has pushed some people too far…

David turns on Charlie! Everyone is affected by Iain’s situation in different ways, and tensions are running high. Normally timid David loses his temper with Charlie Fairhead this week when Charlie sends Gem home for her behaviour at work.

And Jan Jenning’s enforced bravado hides deeper feelings…
