Laura Aikman is joining the cast of Waterloo Road for its last ever series.

The actress, who played junior doctor May Phelps in Casualty, will star alongside fellow new cast members Rege Jean Page (Fresh Meat) and Stefano Braschi (Raoul in Sherlock) in the staff room, although her exact role is so far being kept under wraps.

"I'm very pleased to be starting filming on Waterloo Road and to be joining the very talented cast," said Laura. "It's exciting to be part of the final series."

Fans of the school drama set in Scotland were shocked in April when the BBC confirmed on Twitter that series 10 of the drama would be its last. Although the final 10 episodes won't screen until early next year, executive producer John Griffin promises the popular BBC1 show will go out with a bang.

He said: "This will be the last series and we plan to give our incredible fanbase a final term they will never forget."

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
