TV presenter Clare Balding has revealed that she went through a 'pretty difficult' time after telling her grandmother that she was gay.
Speaking on Radio Four's Desert Island Discs, the popular broadcaster said that she told her grandmother about her sexuality after she saw a photo of her at a film premiere with partner Alice Arnold.
"I said “Have you seen the paper?” and she said “Yes and I think it’s disgusting”." Clare recalled.
"I said “What do you mean? The invasion of my privacy or my lifestyle choice” and she said “Both” and I didn’t talk to her for about six months after that which was pretty difficult.’
Clare also addressed the controversy over the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, taking place in the wake of Russia passing controversial anti-gay laws - saying she would be attending as it was 'hugely important'.
She added it would make 'no difference' to anyone in Russia if she boycotted the event, which kicks off in February.
"I will make a moral stand on things but in this instance the right thing to do is go," Clare explained.
