So, is there a connection between social unrest and the popularity of zombie movies?

And tonight Mark Gatiss will be looking at American horror movies from the 60s and 70s and investigating that phenomenon in the final episode of his A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss.
What with the recent spending review and imminent cuts a-Go Go, social upheaval will surely be an inevitable side effect? If zombies are indeed born out of unrest then that means there'll be much undead drama to look forward to in the next few years.
Maybe a new genre of zombie horror will be born, perhaps involving much banker bashing as well as critiques of the dangers of today's cyberculture.
I can see it now. How's this for a plot: while everyone's fighting for the few jobs left in the world, an office of bankers sit with their feet up, checking out funny clips online. One video in particular catches their collective attention and they all send it on to their friends and colleagues worldwide. Before the end of the day, however, everyone who handled the online content is infected with a new, modern and highly sophisticated zombie virus...
