‘Doctor Foster has changed my life,’ says Suranne Jones as she claims two TV Times awards
Suranne Jones has admitted she was worried whether people would like series two of Doctor Foster
Suranne Jones has said monster hit Doctor Foster has changed her life as she claimed not one but two TV Times awards in the magazine’s annual celebration of television.
The 39-year-old actress is enjoying a double celebration as her stellar turn as GP Gemma Foster in the BBC1 series saw her crowned Favourite Actress by TV Times readers, while they also named the second series of the thriller their Favourite Drama.
“Aren’t I greedy?!” beamed Suranne. “I didn’t want to disappoint people who loved the first series and that was always on my mind, "OMG but will people like it?". Because I want people to like what we do because I love doing what I do and as someone who loves TV I thank everyone that also loves TV for voting for this it is brilliant."
But as Doctor Foster ended with Gemma’s son Tom (Tom Taylor) going missing, could the series return.
“I’m about to do a play and then [BBC1 period drama] Gentleman Jack so nothing has been discussed, but Doctor Foster changed my life in so many ways just because it has given me opportunities and has made me work in a different, very collaborative way, and has made me understand scripts better and made me want to be more behind the scenes producing.”
Suranne’s mind is now firmly on Christmas. “All the things I’m thinking about are sparkly. I’ve a nearly two-year-old so I’ll brave the Santa queues!”

Caren has been a journalist specializing in TV for almost two decades and is a Senior Features Writer for TV Times, TV & Satellite Week and What’s On TV magazines and she also writes for What to Watch.
Over the years, she has spent many a day in a muddy field or an on-set catering bus chatting to numerous stars on location including the likes of Olivia Colman, David Tennant, Suranne Jones, Jamie Dornan, Dame Judi Dench and Sir Derek Jacobi as well as Hollywood actors such as Glenn Close and Kiefer Sutherland.
Caren will happily sit down and watch any kind of telly (well, maybe not sci-fi!), but she particularly loves period dramas like Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey and The Crown and she’s also a big fan of juicy crime thrillers from Line of Duty to Poirot.
In her spare time, Caren enjoys going to the cinema and theatre or curling up with a good book.
