DVD review | The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) | The psychedelic road movie remastered
By Peter Fuller published
THE STORY Stifled in her marriage to a bookish school-teacher, Rebecca (Marianne Faithfull (opens in new tab)) sets out on a cross country ride on her beloved Harley to Heidelberg to be with her intellectual lover Daniel (Alain Delon (opens in new tab)). But what does fate hold at the end of the road?
THE LOWDOWN This oddity from acclaimed British cinematographer/director Jack Cardiff (opens in new tab) is best known for its star, former Sixties wild child Marianne Faithfull - who was dating The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger at the time - slipping in and out of a sexy leather catsuit. It might mot be one of Cardiff's most assured offerings, but its psychedelic photography and swinging Les Reed music score has made it a cult favourite for fans of retro 1960s cinema.
