Ed Sheeran to play deadly protege in blood-soaked medieval TV series

Ed Sheeran has been given a recurring role in new FX show The Bastard Executioner.

The Thinking Out Loud singer will play Sir Cormac, an ambitious and deadly protege of a high-ranking church elder in the blood-soaked medieval epic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Bastard Executioner, starring True Blood’s Stephen Moyer, tells the story of a 14th century warrior who changes his path in life after a visitation from a divine messenger who beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner. It is currently shooting on location in the UK.

The show is the latest series from Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Ed was a big fan of the biker drama and, after tweeting about how much he loved it, he ended up recording a bluesy cover of Foy Vance’s Make It Rain for the penultimate episode.

Earlier this year Ed filmed a cameo appearance in Australian soap Home And Away while on tour Down Under.

And he has previously been in talks to appears as an extra in fantasy drama Game Of Thrones, of which he is also a big fan.

He said: “There were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which could have been cool. But every time they shoot it’s the time I tour in the UK. But I’ve got that time off this year, so I’m going to hound them.”
