Ex EastEnders actor James Alexandrou to star in Casualty

James Alexandrou will be making a guest appearance in Casualty on 24 January. The 29-year-old actor, who was Martin Fowler in EastEnders from 1996 until 2007, is playing violent ex con Franny Davies in BBC1's Saturday night medical drama.

When Franny's girlfriend, Cheryl, and 14-year-old stepdaughter, Leah, end up in ED after falling off a 6ft wall trying to escape him, Cheryl quickly accuses Franny of harming Leah. With the police and social services on their way, Franny does a runner and ends up in a violent fight, but is brought back to the ED when he's run over by Dixie's ambulance...

Since leaving EastEnders in 2007, James has appeared in many Shakespeare plays on stage, including As You Like It, Henry V and Romeo & Juliet. Last year, he played villain Iago in Othello at London's Leicester Square Theatre. The role of Martin Fowler in the Walford soap was recently taken over by a new actor, James Bye.

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
