Fern Britton admits to stomach surgery
This Morning presenter Fern Britton has revealed that she underwent stomach surgery in order to help her lose weight. The 50-year-old - who co-presents the ITV1 daytime show with Phillip Schofield - said that she underwent a 'gastric band' procedure two years ago. The operation shrinks the size of the stomach, allowing only small meals to be eaten. Britton - who has lost three stone since the procedure - said in a statement she was pleased with the results but would not want to encourage others to undergo similar treatment. "As I know, many people are interested in my weight loss over the past two years," she said. "As interest is so high, I am making public, as a personal choice, that I had a gastric band operation two years ago. "I did this purely for myself and I would not wish to influence others to do the same. But for me it has worked and I am very pleased with the results." Previous reports had suggested that Britton - who is married to celebrity chef Phil Vickery - had shed the pounds through healthy eating, walking her dog and cycling. She is not the only TV presenter to admit to having the procedure. Former breakfast TV host Anne Diamond revealed she had had the same surgery but also said that it did not work as her gastric band was not fitted properly.
