The cast of The Inbetweeners are heading to Australia for the film sequel, it has been confirmed.

The original 2011 film, starring Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison as hapless teenagers on holiday in Crete at the end of their final school year, was a box office sensation.

The Inbetweeners Movie, based on the E4 sitcom about the exploits of characters Will, Simon, Jay and Neil, raked in millions on the big screen and from the DVD market.

Now producers have confirmed that The Inbetweeners Movie 2 will be shot in Australia this month before moving to the UK in January, for release in August.

Inbetweeners creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, who wrote the script and will be directing the big-screen comedy, said in a statement: "We can't say too much as we don't want to spoil the jokes for you, but what we can exclusively reveal is there will be kangaroos. And Australians. And possibly koalas.

"Oh and obviously Jay, Will, Neil and Simon, providing they're let into the country. Thanks so much for all your support, we're hoping to deliver a film that you'll enjoy even more than the last one."
