Janet Jackson has passed on the opportunity to join The X Factor USA. The singer and actress was rumoured to be in the frame for a judging slot on Simon Cowell's show in the wake of the cull, which saw panellists Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger leave, but she has told E! News that she won't be stepping in. Janet, 45, said in a statement that she was "very flattered that X Factor let me know that I was being considered for next season, but it just wouldn't be possible". A spokesperson for the star said she had to turn down the opportunity because of her other work commitments, including her Tyler Perry film and Number Ones tour. Janet's announcement means there are still two empty seats on the judging panel beside TV mogul Simon and record producer LA Reid. However, Simon has indicated he might be interested in seeing Britney Spears as an X Factor judge. He told Access Hollywood earlier this week: "This girl has got resilience. I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, [X Factor would be] a walk in the park."
