Kara and Artem end their romance

Actress Kara Tointon and Strictly pro Artem Chigvintsev have confirmed they have split up, following earlier speculation that their romance was on the rocks.

The couple originally got together after dancing to victory in the 2010 series of the show.

However The Sun on Sunday reports that they parted company following a series of rows in which she is said to have accused him of being 'obsessed' with Strictly.

"Kara and Artem have given this their best show but there is nothing between them any more," a source told the paper.

"The passion they shared has fizzled out, they don't have much in common."

The insider added: "They tried to work things out, but after a while it became clear they were flogging a dead horse and decided it would be best to end it.

"Neither wanted to create a big fuss, so they agreed to keep the split a secret until Strictly had finished."

Kara has been publicly supporting Artem and his 2013 partner Natalie Gumede - with whom he reached Saturday night's final - on Twitter.

However she turned up to just a handful of shows, and will not join the dancer when he relocates to Los Angeles next year.

The source told the paper that while they were unable to save their relationship "there was no anger or bitterness on either side".

The pair are the latest in a long line of couples who got together on the Strictly dancefloor, with mixed results.

Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna got together in 2009 after they were partnered on the show but split a year later, while Kristina Rihanoff broke up with boyfriend joe Calzaghe - who she met on the show - earlier this year.

Meanwhile former series pro Flavia Cacace dumped dance partner boyfriend Vincent Simone after an 11-year relationship for her 2007 partner Matt di Angelo, but the romance did not last.

She is now engaged to her 2010 series partner Jimi Mistry.
