A couple of days ago, Louis Walsh was saying he was “done with The X Factor” after 11 years as a judge/mentor on the ITV talent show.

Before becoming a familiar face on Saturday night TV,  Walsh was the manager for former Eurovision winner Johnny Logan and bands such as Boyzone and Westlife. Talking to Irish TV channel TV3, Louis said his days as an X Factor judge were over and that he was looking to return to being a manager.

“I think I’m done with The X Factor honestly. My day job is as a manager, I’ve kind of neglected that. I want to get back to being a manager.

“I’m working with Shane Filan [Westlife]; he’s got a new record coming out. And I’m working with [new boy band] Hometown. I’d like to get back to where I started off… I never wanted to be on TV, it just happened.”

But while it looked like he was walking away from the world of Simon Cowell, it seems the 62-year-old from Kiltimagh, County Mayo, is being lined up by his X Factor boss to take the helm on the launch of Ireland’s Got Talent next year.

A source told The Daily Mirror: “Simon thinks Louis is the best man to take the reins on the judging panel. He’s very popular in Ireland and is the obvious choice – and Simon trusts him. The show’s in the early phases of development and Ireland should be a great new territory for the Got Talent format.”
