Pax is back! Jeremy Paxman returns to the BBC for a documentary on the EU

It's been announced that former Newsnight anchorman Jeremy Paxman is to return to the BBC.

He left the corporation’s current affairs team in 2014 after 25 years at the helm of Newsnight, but BBC TV Channels and iPlayer controller Charlotte Moore confirmed he’ll be back on his old stomping ground before the referendum on 23 June to front a documentary on the European Union.

It's just one of a number of new programmes unveiled by Moore, the brains behind commissioning The Great British Bake Off, which will be screened by the BBC in the coming months.

They include a new six-part BBC One series called Wanderlust, an exploration of marriage and monogamy by award-winning playwright Nick Payne, and Our Loved Boy, a 90-minute drama about the death of schoolboy Damilola Taylor.

King Charles III, a 90-minute drama adapted by Doctor Foster screenwriter Mike Bartlett from his own Olivier Award-winning play script, will be shown on BBC Two.

It sees Prince Charles ascend to the throne following the Queen’s death before he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law, creating political chaos, a constitutional crisis and rioting on the streets.
