Russell Brand has been voted the sexiest vegetarian celebrity of 2011. The 36-year-old comedian shared the US title with Bridesmaids star and writer Kristen Wiig, beating Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Jared Leto and last year's winner Olivia Wilde to the number one spot. Russell tweeted: "Thanks for voting me PETA's sexiest vegetarian. Now no-one will be sure what I mean when I offer them a nut roast." The British actor, who is married to singer Katy Perry and has been a vegetarian since he was 14, told the animal rights organisation: "You shouldn't eat animals, it's mean to them." Kristen, 37, has previously said being a vegetarian helps her stay fit and healthy. The Knocked Up star told Women's Health magazine: "I'm a vegetarian. I eat a lot of tofu and soy. "I do have a splurge day once a week when I can eat whatever I want. It's good, because it helps you stay on track the rest of the week." Singer Eliza Doolittle and The Wanted's Jake McGuinness were voted PETA UK's sexiest vegetarian celebrities of the year.
