Rita Ora takes part in Children in Need Rocks 2018, which is on BBC1 tonight
Rita Ora has revealed why she chose to cover George Michael’s iconic song Freedom as part of Children in Need Rocks 2018.
The 27-year-old performer joined the likes of Olly Murs and Sir Rod Stewart for the spectacular night of entertainment, which will be shown on BBC1 tonight after being recorded at The SSE Arena Wembley earlier this month.
Explaining why she chose to cover George Michael, Rita explained: “George Michael and the song Freedom changed my life, it made me feel like I was able to do anything, take over the world.
“He is an icon, I hope my cover honours him and remind people of his incredible talent.”
Rita, who’s re-imagining the famous Freedom song in her performance, went onto say that she would have loved to have collaborated with the late star.
“I would love to do something with an icon like George of course, but for the present, I think there are so many artists from the UK which are doing such a great job, we really are representing, especially the girls and the pop-stars, so it would be hard to pick, but I’m definitely down for a big-collab!”
As to who her favourite artist was currently, she replied: “I love everyone, but Sam Smith is my boy, and I love his song Promises, with Calvin Harris.”
Children in Need Rocks is presented by Fearne Cotton and Clara Amfo. Other songs being covered include an exclusive performance by All Saints of The Police’s classic song Message In A Bottle, plus Olly Murs covering Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling and Rock Your Body.
Children in Need Rocks, which is in aid of the charity, is on BBC1 tonight at 8.30pm.
