Ronni Ancona and Kevin Whately will join the original cast of Still Game in the much-anticipated new series

The Big Impression star Ronni Ancona and Lewis star Kevin Whately will take leading roles in the new series of BBC1's Scottish comedy Still Game.

The TV favourites will join original cast members Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who play the Glaswegian pensioners, Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade.

The much anticipated six-part series will return later this year after a nine-year break from TV.

Still Game originally ran for six series between 2002 and 2007. It also did an impressive 21-night run of live shows at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena in 2015.

Ancona and Whately will star in separate episodes.

Ronni Ancona says: “I’m so honoured and thrilled to be part of Still Game. I’m a huge fan of the show and I’m delighted to be back with the old gang again who I worked with on Pulp Video many years ago. That’s the official line. The truth is it’s really all an excuse to get close to Navid [Sanjeev Kohli] – all that polyester clothing really does it for me!”

Kevin Whately added: “The script made me laugh out loud and I’m really looking forward to filming it!”

Steven Canny, BBC Comedy, Executive Producer, said: “We’re delighted to welcome these two outstanding actors in to the Still Game family. Kevin is one of the most prominent, accomplished and experienced actors in the UK and Ronni’s comedy credentials speak for themselves. We’re lucky to have them on board and I can’t wait to see them tangling with Jack and Victor.”

Many more familiar faces will take on guest roles in the news series of the popular BBC comedy, including: Outlander’s David Elliot, River City stars Paul James Corrigan and Barbara Rafferty and Mountain Goats’ David Ireland.

Still Game will screen on BBC One.
