Sarah Harding appointed Government advisor

Former Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding is taking on a new challenge following the band's split - as an advisor for the Government.

The singer and actress - who found fame after the band was formed on 2002's Popstars: The Rivals - will address Parliament next month in her role as ambassador for the charity Coming Home, which seeks to aid injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

She will address MPs on June 13 over the importance of providing war veterans with specially adapted houses via government funding.

The 31-year-old will take to the House of Commons along with a spokesperson for the Falklands Veterans Foundation - with a friend telling the Mirror she was 'utterly terrified'.

“Sarah has sung live in front of tens of thousands of fans and sold out arenas across the globe," the source said.

“She’s starred in big-name Hollywood films and modelled in just her bikini – so not much fazes her. This, though, is a whole different ball game."

The insider added: "Sarah has been asked to give a speech, which she is writing herself, on behalf of the charity.

“She will urge MPs to offer more fiscal and emotional support to our returning troops. It is something she feels passionately about. So she agreed to take part even though public speaking really isn’t her thing.”

Sarah is the second member of Girls Aloud to address MPs after former bandmate Nicola Roberts visited Parliament last year on behalf of the charity Beat Bullying.

The singer is also currently working on a new solo album following her reunion with Girls Aloud earlier this year for their Ten tour - which turned out to be their final stint together as a band.
