Sheridan Smith, Alison Steadman to appear in new series of black comedy Inside No 9

Sheridan Smith and Jack Whitehall are among the stars who will cameo in the new series of dark comedy Inside No 9.

The BBC Two comedy series – written by and starring Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton – is returning for a second series of standalone stories about the peculiar goings-on at different houses with the same door number.

Steve and Reece said: “We are delighted to be handing over the keys to six new No 9s, we hope they will amuse, shock, horrify and surprise… but not necessarily in that order. Once again we have enjoyed working with some of the best comic talent in the country. Now we are getting old, it’s nice not to have to play all the parts.”

This time the stars of The League Of Gentlemen and Psychoville will be joined by another impressive list of guest actors, including Alison Steadman, Outnumbered’s Claire Skinner, Jane Horrocks and former Corrie star Julie Hesmondhalgh.

The dark comic tales will again give a variety of settings, from a sleeping car on a French train to a seance in a grand Victorian villa, and from a 17th century village to a volunteer call centre.
