Last year it was Skopelos and Mamma Mia! In 2001 it was Kefalonia and Captain Corelli's Mandolin, and long before that it was Mykonos and this Brit flick starring Pauline Collins, Tom Conti and Alison Steadman.
Whenever a movie's made on a Greek island, it seems a surge of tourists follow.
I visited the Shirley Valentine beach when I went to Mykonos a few years ago. Funnily enough it looked just like any other Mediterranean beach. I don't quite know what I expected to see. It is undoubtedly beautiful though, so I can totally understand why Shirley chose to leave her kitchen for it.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it difficult to imagine sun, sea and sand when the world around us is coated by 12 inches of snow?
