The Voice UK has announced Boy George and Paloma Faith as their new coaches on the BBC1 singing talent show.

The duo will replace Sir Tom Jones and Rita Ora, who recent decamped to The Voice's ITV rival The X Factor.

It appears as if Sir Tom has been axed from the line-up. He recently said: "I hope to be sat back in my chair with will.i.am and Ricky Wilson. We are all friends, I love being on the show and I would like to be back if they want me."

Speaking to the BBC, classic Eighties pop star Boy George said: "I'm thrilled and excited to be a judge on The Voice UK. I'm a huge fan of the show and have watched and engaged with it from series one. If I can help someone to win I will be delighted. I can't wait to sit in that chair!”

As frontman of Culture Club Boy George has sold more than 50 million albums, 100 million singles and has achieved top 10 hits in every country.

Joining him on the spinning chairs is the Brit Award-winning, east London singer/songwriter Paloma Faith, who shot to international stardom in 2009 with her debut album Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?

Paloma's no stranger to the charts – all three of her albums have reached double platinum in the UK.

Paloma said: “I’m really excited about working with creative people who are there not just to be great singers, but also innovative personalities and performers. I have a long history of helping break artists as in my club nights I booked Kate Nash, Adele, and The Noisettes before they hit the big time, and four of my band members have gone on to pursue successful solo careers. I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth into something that cultivates the talents of another person and takes the focus off myself for a bit!”

Paloma and Boy George will join will.i.am and Ricky Wilson when they make their debuts on The Voice in January.
