Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer finally revealed

Disney on Friday finally revealed the title for Star Wars: Episode IX, along with a short teaser trailer. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the name—and wrapping up the Skywalker saga will be its game. Also: it's about damn time Disney revealed some details.

The Rise of Skywalker is being directed by J.J. Abrams, with many stars from the first two movies returning, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron. The cast also features plenty of new names, such as Keri Russell, as well as a few familiar faces, like Billy Dee Williams, who will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.

Along with the new title, Disney also released a few details about what to expect from the film. Following the downfall of the First Order in The Force Awakens, General Hux and Kylo Ren rallied in The Last Jedi. The Rise of Skywalker will see the First Order and the Resistance clash in an epic tale of good versus evil—with the return of one of the franchise's best villains, Palpatine.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Abrams changes the events that occurred in The Last Jedi, which was directed by Rian Johnson. One big thing that could be retconned is the origin of Rey's parents—something Johnson said he's perfectly fine with. With Palpatine possible in the mix, things just got a whole lot more interesting.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
