Actor Jeff Stewart - The Bill's Pc Reg Hollis - was rushed to hospital after reportedly harming himself on the set of the ITV1 show. Jeff, who has played loveable cop Reg since 1984, apparently went to his dressing room and cut his wrists after being told by TV bosses that his contract was not being renewed, according to reports in The Sun. The actor actually raised the alarm himself, at the studios in Merton, South London. Security staff rushed to help Jeff and called an ambulance which took him to St George's Hospital in nearby Tooting. He was kept in for observation on Tuesday night but it is thought that he has since been discharged. Jeff had been suspended just before Christmas after a furious outburst on set - and sources describe this latest development as 'a desperate cry for help'. Jeff has struggled since suffering an emotional breakdown in 2006, when he collapsed and was taken to hospital. A source at The Bill said: "This is desperately sad and we just want Jeff to get better. "Thankfully his injuries aren't life-threatening, but everyone is just devastated for him."
