Tim Healy: 'I'll be watching the World Cup in Benidorm's Geordie bar!'

Football-mad Benidorm star Tim Healy has already made plans for watching England games during the World Cup while he's working in Spain. And he'll feel right at home too, surrounded by plenty of tourists from his native Newcastle...

"Yep I'll be popping down the Geordie bar for the England games," Tim told What's On TV when we visited him on the Spanish set of the ITV comedy.

"The guy who runs the Geordie bar is from Yorkshire, but he's a massive Newcastle fan. I'm a season ticket holder so missed a few Newcastle matches when we started filming Benidorm in the spring, but I've watched all their games on the telly at this bar. It's got a lovely atmosphere."

Tim, who plays Benidorm's transvestite hotel handyman Les/Lesley, has high hopes for Roy Hodgson's team in Brazil.

"England have got a young squad this time, so that's good," he says. "They'll be keen and raring to go from the off I hope. I'm sure some other actors from Benidorm will be watching England with me. No doubt I'll drag them down to the Geordie bar, too."

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
